An energy saving lighting system is being introduced in the UK's busiest train station.

Open Technology's LiGO control system is set to come to Clapham Junction Station designed to provide the exact light levels required.

Innovative technology matches lighting to the train timetable, passenger presence, daylight levels and other issues.

The system will enable maximum savings throughout the year, while reducing light pollution in the area.

When the station is not being used the lights can dim down and turn off completely when the station is closed.

Chris Bedford, managing director, said: "Delivery of a safe environment is of paramount importance in the transport sector.

"We are able to achieve maximum savings for the operators, alongside comfort and safety for staff and passengers."

The technology was first introduced in Woking Station and is now being introduced to 25 stations along the Wessex Route.
