I'd like to take the opportunity, through your letters' page, to thank the over five hundred residents from across Sutton Borough who signed CAFOD's Unearth Justice petition.
CAFOD's three glamorous Golden Girls, from St Philomena's school, and Gold Bar, from John Fisher school, with other supporters, presented the petition to Sutton jewellery retailers, Warrender's, H Samuel, Ernest Jones and Argos, on Saturday, November 25.
It asked the jewellers to take steps to ensure the gold they sell is produced ethically by obeying the Golden Rules'. It also asked H Samuel and Ernest Jones, as members of the Signet Group, which has signed up to the Golden Rules' to use their influence to have them incorporated in the Council of Responsible Jewellery Practice's standards which are in process of being drawn up.
