With reference to your correspondent who questioned some of the facts in relation to the Local Development Framework (LDF) for Sutton and its core strategy.

This framework will replace the unitary development plan and will dictate the needs and vision for Sutton for the next 10 to 15 years.

I attended the workshop at St Bedes Conference Centre which was open to residents and stakeholders to offer ideas and suggestions for the LDF.

Apart from the council's officers only 20 persons attended three of whom were Liberal Democrat councillors. These councillors were strategically placed, one to each discussion group.

At the end of the evening I asked whether any change of political power would have any effect upon the Local Development Framework. The answer to which was that the decisions would be made upon the current political status.

This made me question myself as to whether the councillors should have been allowed to attend. Any suggestions raised by all present would be ratified by themselves as members of the full council at the end of consultations.

Are there no lengths to which the controlling council will go to implement its strategies. Acting as both judge and jury would appear to be the unacceptable face of democracy.
