Londoners should not have to dig deeper into their pockets to cover any possible additional resources needed for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

London councils has been firmly behind the bid for the games and is working with the Olympic Delivery Authority and the games' organising committee to ensure that they leave a positive legacy that benefits every Londoner.

Londoners are already paying a fair share towards the costs of staging these games. We have always argued that the amount taxpayers would have to pay and the length of time they would contribute for should be capped.

Any increase would be grossly unfair for Londoners as the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will bring benefits to the entire country.

We want the games to be a success and a showcase for everything London has to offer, but this should not be achieved by placing further financial burden on our residents.
