As a member of staff employed at St Helier Hospital, I felt obliged to participate in the Save St Helier march on Saturday morning.

Bearing in mind the extremely wet and windy conditions a reasonable number of approximately 1,500 people turned up to lend their support.

After reflecting on the day it was my feeling that we require more support from our local residents and businesses in order to fight any cuts or closures that may happen to the hospital. It will affect all of us.

If Patricia Hewitt gets her way then our local hospital is doomed and it's all off to St George's.

This option is simply not possible for many of the local community, including the vulnerable elderly.

After speaking to many local people and hospital patients, I felt a strong apathy towards the march.

I have a message for those people - the prospect of cuts and closure is real and we all need to unite together to fight all possibilities.

Please get behind the campaign and sign Tom Brake's petition to save St Helier online at tombrake.co.uk. Your name will make a difference.
