Staines Town manager Steve Cordery is hoping his Jekyll and Hyde team finally show consistency in the Ryman Premier Division, starting with a home match against Leyton on Saturday (3pm).

Town dropped to 12th place in the table last weekend when they lost 2-1 at Boreham Wood - just five days after they had won 4-2 at leaders Margate to earn the Premier Division's GX team performance of the month award for November.

Cordery, who brought Dean Thomas into midfield in place of the suspended Andr Scarlett, saw his side denied an early penalty when Mark Nwokeji was scythed down in the box.

To make matters worse, they fell behind three minutes later, when defender Peter Smith lofted the ball over keeper Shaun Allaway into his own net.

The Swans equalised through Nwokeji in the 17th minute.

Howard Newton played the ball to Nwokeji, who drove in a low, angled shot.

An entertaining contest ensued. Leon Archer had the ball in the net for the home side, but the strike was ruled out as Darren Lynch, signed from Cambridge City, had handled.

Lynch made amends by heading in a free-kick from Chris Watters on the stroke of half-time.

Staines were unlucky not to pull level after the break when Nwokeji was denied by keeper Noel Imber and striker partner Ali Chaaban shot just wide.

But Boreham Wood went closest, with Paul Burrows rattling the crossbar.

The Swans have reached the semi-finals of the Isthmian League Cup (now the Westview Cup) for the fourth time in their history - but the first time since 1989 - after beating AFC Sudbury 3-1 in the quarter-final at Wheatsheaf Lane on Tuesday.

Chaaban scored twice and Scarlett once, while Sudbury, having their first meeting with Staines, replied through a penalty from skipper David Head.

Staines: Allaway; J Newton, Sargent, Thompson, McDonald; Scarlett, capt, Risbridger, Gordon, H Newton; Thomas, Chaaban. Subs unused: K Warner, Maskell, J Kiffin, Lampton, Courtnage.

They will seek more cup glory when they visit Edgware Town in the Middlesex Senior Cup second round on Tuesday, December 12 (7.45pm).

The reserves were beaten 4-1 at home by Northwood in the Capital League last Thursday, with Jordan Kiffin getting their only goal.

The women's clash against Camden Town was rained off.
