Vandals broke into a nursery to urinate on toys and scrawl obscene graffiti on the walls using the children's crayons.

A group of teenagers broke into an outside area of Kidsunlimited nursery in London Road, North Cheam, at around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

They smashed through a gate and then went on a rampage, urinating on toys and in a sandpit, smashing and stealing toys and writing offensive graffiti on the walls using chalk and crayons they found.

The incident meant children at the nursery were made to stay indoors yesterday to protect them from the vile language written on the walls.

A parent who asked not to be named but whose children attend the nursery said: "It’s disgusting that people can do this to little kids. None of them have been allowed outside."

Other parents have appealed for help replacing the toys through Facebook but Kidsunlimited, a national company, says it will replace everything that was damaged.

A spokesman said: "We are most grateful for the expressions of concern and offers of help from our neighbours but we have already taken steps to replace anything that was damaged and the nursery garden is now back safe for the children to enjoy."

Police are investigating and have appealed for information. Five white youths aged between 16 and 18 are thought to be responsible. If you know anything about what happened or who is behind the incident, you can call police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
