A brand new state-of-the-art playground is to replace the old damaged one at South Norwood Country Park, the council has revealed.
The playground, installed 18 years ago, has been the target of vandals in recent years and general wear and tear has also contributed to its decline.
A bid for a new play area is to be submitted to the Big Lottery Fund in March next year with a decision expected in June. If bidding is successful, an £180,000 playground could be built by the end of next year, subject to planning permission.
Councillor, Steve Hollands, cabinet member for culture and sport, said: "We are very excited about this new development for South Norwood Country Park. The old facilities have reached the end of their natural lifespan and are in much need of replacement.
"As a new administration, we are keen to take some positive action in replacing this equipment. We fully understand how attached local residents are to the current playground but what we are proposing will offer them even better facilities with greater access and safety.
"We will consult with them at all stages to ensure that the new play area meets their needs and requirements."
