After years of neglect one man has made it his mission to get a skip overflowing with rubbish and scrawled with graffiti removed.

The eyesore has been languishing inside a compound off the Raynes Park playing field under the A3 flyover since it was seemingly abandoned a "number of years" ago.

Now George Gough, a resident of Raynes Park, has had enough and has taken matters into his own hands.

He said: "I have been trying to get it shifted for at least a month but nothing is happening at all.

"No one seems to be doing anything about it.

"It is disgusting - filled with rubbish.

"There is spray paint over the sides of it where vandals have got in. "I fear there could be rats in there as well.

"The Environment Agency said they don’t deal with anything less than 20 tonnes.

"The council has been trying to get it moved but can’t enter property locked by a gate.

"I’m just sick and tired of no-one listening and I think it’s time that at least people realise that this thing is sitting there and no one is doing anything about it."

Merton Council confirmed that as the skip was on private land it did not fall under their jurisdiction.

It is believed the land is owned by Network Rail.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “We will look into whether the land in question is our responsibility.

"When we have all the information we will consider what options are available to us.”
