This safety conscious thief brazenly rode into a family's drive to steal items from their car - without realising he was being filmed.

The helmet-wearing criminal was caught on camera riding past the house in Grange Road, Sutton, spotting a potential target then veering into the drive to try the car's door at 5.50am on Sunday.

The man pulls his top down to cover his hand as he opens the door then positions his bike so he can make a quick getaway before taking a TomTom sat nav and a pair of prescription sunglasses. He then rides off with his stolen goods.

As he carries out the theft he appears to spot a video camera mounted on the roof of the house and tries to shield his face, but not before a separate camera got clear shots of him in the act.

The victim, who asked not to be named, said: "It was shocking to find our car had been stolen from and that the thief was clearly riding around the area looking for cars to steal from with absolutely no fear that he'd get caught."

Police were called at 10am when the victim realised what had happened and are investigating the incident. Do you recognise the thief? If so, you can call police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
