The borough is playing its part in the country's recent economic growth, according to Sutton's MP Paul Burstow.

Mr Burstow has cited the Opportunity Sutton program, which aims to encourage businesses in the town, as an example of how the area has contributed to recent figures that show unemployment has fallen and the economy grew by 0.6 per cent in the last quarter.

Opportunity Sutton has helped attract £317m of new investment in the borough and more than 1,700 new jobs here since its launch in 2012.

Mr Burstow said: "Our ‘Opportunity Sutton’ program is fully playing its part in this resurgence, unlocking economic growth and creating new jobs by attracting promising businesses to this naturally appealing area for enterprise.

"Whilst there is still more to do, we should be proud that unemployment levels in Sutton are some of the lowest in the country."
