Police are investigating a suspected arson after a number of outbuildings were set alight in Norbury.

Four fire engines from Norbury, Croydon and Mitcham fire stations were called to Brockenhurst Way at 2.19am this morning.

Crews used jets and hose reels to put out the fires, which are believed to have been started deliberately.

Crew manager Nick Matthews said: "It was quite a challenging incident, there was quite a big smoke plume that was very visible and lots of people were calling.

"The buildings were quite difficult to get access to, the crew did a real good job to stop the fires spreading to any other buildings.

"When we got there we couldn't see what was alight and how much was alight and we had to get over the fences to put the fires out."

Four wooden sheds were completely destroyed in the fire, including one that was being used as a sauna and another that contained a hot tub.

Firefighters remained at the scene for three hours and fire investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
