A group of coffee club friends will be putting on their pyjamas and walking the streets to raise money for Princess Alice Hospice.

Verity Upton, from Twickenham, and her friends will take part in the Esher hospice’s annual midnight walk to raise money in memory of their friend Marilyn Makins, who was cared for at the hospice in the last stages of cancer, and to support Marilyn’s husband Ben.

The Midnight Pyjama walk, which takes place on Saturday, September 7, will raise money for the eight-to-eight night nurses, who care for patients through the night in their own homes so family members can have a good night’s sleep.

Starting at St Mary’s University, walkers will head on an eight or 12-mile route through Kingston, Teddington and Richmond.

Mrs Upton said: “My husband and I started to go for coffee with Marilyn and Ben around 10 years ago. Some of our other friends started to join us every Saturday morning and it turned into a little coffee club.

“We wanted to support Ben and the family and so we decided to sign up to do the walk.”
