Grabbing a helmet and clambering into the driving seat of a fire engine, families enjoyed a day in the life of a firefighter as Painshill fire station opened its doors to the public on Saturday.

Youngsters pretended they were crew members for the day as they were given access to the real versions of the toys they have at home.

Ensuring their fitness was put to the test, watch manager Tony Pascal and crew manager Richard Stedman completed a sponsored cycle on stationary bicycles to raise money for Harrisons Fund.

Four-legged friends also played an important part in the day, with search and rescue dogs shown off to residents and the mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Mike Bennison, giving his seal of approval to the horse model used in practising to recue horses.

As an extra treat, children were treated to face painting and balloon animals.
