Korean war veterans marched and a brass band played pop hit Gangnam style to celebrate 60 years of armistice at this year’s Korean festival.
The former military men commemorated six decades of peace between South Korea and North Korea with a parade at the Fairfield in Kingston on Saturday.
Folk games, martial arts and flavoursome food were also part of the day-long line up at the 16th annual festival in the borough.
Winny Yoon from the Korean Residents’ Society said: “There was an amazing brass band – they played popular music like Psy’s Gangnam style and people were enjoying it.
“The best part was the parade. The British Korean Veterans Association was there – they are getting older so the group is getting smaller. I think it might be the last parade for some of them.
“That was quite touching.”
Councillor Mary Heathcote said: “It was very moving seeing the war veterans in their 80s. They marched with such dignity and the respect that the community showed – it was lovely to see. There was so much warmth within the community.
“It was good to see the children’s activities too.”
There was also African drumming and Nepalese dancing on the day.
