Four former Raynes Park residents and AFC Wimbledon fans are doing a cricket-themed walk to raise money in memory of a cricket loving friend.

The team - comprising Graham Bell, Grahame Blakey, Nick Hussey and Kevin Poore - set out on a walk from Birmingham to London on Wednesday, and is hoping to complete the 130-mile trek in just seven days arriving in London in time for the start of the final Ashes test match at the Oval.

The team will be dressed in pristine cricket whites sporting Graham Gooch-style moustaches in memory of their friend and cricket fan Steve Baldwin, who passed away in 2011 after contracting the rare disease Amyloidosis.

Fifth member Mark Challinor will join them on Sunday, at the midway point.

Crossing into Northamptonshire, lead member Graham Bell, 46, said: "It’s been tough at times but people have been encouraging us and lifting our spirits.

"Everyone has been fantastic and supportive."

They hope to raise £5,000 for The Lord’s Taverners and the Amyloidosis Research Fund at UCL.
