Crystal Palace boss Peter Taylor has revealed his interest in Everton youngster James Vaughan and may make a bid to bring the striker on loan to Selhurst Park in the new year.

The 18-year-old became the youngest goal scorer in Premiership history when he notched against the Eagles two seasons ago and recently returned from a long spell on the sidelines through injury, scoring against West Ham on Sunday.

A loan move away from Goodison Park would enable Vaughan to gain match fitness and first team experience. Taylor admitted he has previously spoken to David Moyes about the possibility of capturing the young hotshot on a short-term deal.

"I spoke to David Moyes about him when I asked about Iain Turner a few weeks ago and he was nowhere near fit," said Taylor.

"I haven't done anything since then, but he's a very good forward who has been out for a long time injured and has worked hard to get himself fit again."

However, the Palace boss did admit a possible deal could be arranged when the transfer window reopens on January 1.

"It's something that might happen in January. I would not close it and say it definitely would not happen. He's a player I'm interested in."

Meanwhile, one player who looks unlikely to have much of a future at Selhurst Park is goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly.

The Hungarian returned to the Eagles from a short spell on loan at West Ham after the East London club rejected the opportunity to extend his deal.

Kiraly is available for selection but Taylor admitted he will not feature in Saturday's game against Colchester United.

"We have more goalkeeper's than red buses at the moment," he said. "Gabor is back and I'm sure it was a good experience for him to be back in the Premiership and being on the bench.

"But I think I will be going with the same two goalkeepers this week.

Kiraly's replacement Turner kept his third clean sheet in four games against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday as Palace's 3-0 win moved them up to 16th place in the Championship table - just nine points off the play-offs positions.

Taylor recalled strikers Dougie Freedman and Shefki Kuqi after their rescue act against Wolves the previous Saturday and was rewarded with a goal each from the attacking duo, which leaves the Palace boss with a nice selection problem this Saturday.

"I don't mind headaches like that. I said to the players before the game on Saturday that we have a very big squad and they've got to be patient at times.

"It might be them left out every now and again, and maybe the attitude previously was thinking it could never be them. That's the strength of the squad."

Another player recalled by Taylor was Ben Watson, who had failed to appear in the Eagles' past five games.

The midfielder fitted in alongside Michael Hughes in the centre of midfield in place of Mark Kennedy.

"I just wanted to see something a little different in midfield," said Taylor. "Ben is an excellent player and would admit himself he has dropped his standard this year and not been the player we know he is.

"I thought he showed some really good touches on Saturday."

l Danny Butterfield is unlikely to feature for the next two weeks after injuring his groin against QPR.

The right back was substituted in the 44th minute and replaced by Matt Lawrence, who is expected to fill in for the former Grimsby Town man against Colchester and Derby County.
