A rapper who released an emotional music video recalling the night his stepfather was murdered, has spoken for the first time about why he recorded the track.

Karl Wilson who performs as Konan, is one half of Krept and Konan. The 23-year-old's stepfather Carlton Ned was shot dead in their home in Langdale Road, Thornton Heath, in the early hours of July 1, 2011.

On Monday, Christopher Thomas of Morrison House, Tulse Hill, was found guilty of the 41-year-old's murder and shooting his wife Donna Michael and jailed for at least 35 years.

Mr Wilson, who was targeted in the attack, escaped unharmed and earlier this week released the emotional music video for 'My Story' and said the track was his way of dealing with what happened.

He said: "Basically the song was done way before, I had written it a year ago for BBC Radio 1, but because of the trial we didn't do the video.

"Now we have the mix tape and My Story is the first song on it."

Mr Wilson said he had received a positive reaction since posting the video on YouTube, receiving messages of support from footballers and other artists, including NaughtyBoy and Tinie Tempah.

He said releasing the video had helped him come to terms with what happened, but watching the final version was when it hit him.

"Throughout the whole thing I have never taken it in [what happened] I just tried to distance myself with the music and never accepted it. I just tried to stay strong, but after finishing it its was like a weight off my shoulders, " he said.

"The third time I watched it back, it hit me, as it reminded me of what has been going on and it took me back. I have spoken to mum, but I haven't asked her what she thinks, but I'm going to."

Mr Wilson who gave evidence during Thomas' trial at the Old Bailey, said he was pleased with the sentence as it meant his mum was able to have closure.

He said: "Closure is what she has always said to me that she wanted. Through the case the police were hard on me, [when it happened] they thought I knew who it was.

"I felt like I had done something wrong, but mum had my back. When I didn't want to speak to them she just said, I want to get closure. I know my mum is happy now and she has got peace."

Mr Wilson said there is one other song in which he refers to Mr Ned's death, on Young Kingz The Mixtape.

He added: "My verse on the second song is about Carl. The track is called Other Side and my bit is a letter to him, it is one last tribute."

Young Kingz The Mixtape is out on September 2 and is available for pre-order on ITunes.
