A rock band is urging fans to back them in their mission to win a singing competition run by chef Jamie Oliver that would see them perform in front of thousands.

Brightlight City, who are regular performers at Croydon’s Scream Lounge, beat competition from over 800 other bands to reach the final three of the chef's Summer Jam competition.

The band who is made up of brothers, Jamie and Justin Giarraputo, from Epsom, Joe Edwards and Dan Stubberfield from Carshalton, and Australian Jono Staunton, is going head to head for the public's vote against the two other finalists.

The band with the most votes will get to play at The Big Feastival, a music festival organised by Oliver and Blur’s Alex James, that more than 15,000 will attend.

As part of the prize the winning song will also feature on the opening credits of the chef's new cooking series to be broadcast later this year.

Mr Stubberfield said: "It is a really exciting opportunity getting to the final of this competition.

"We got to shoot an amazing video for 'Feels Like', we hope people like it. We want people to look at it and if they like it and want to see us live then vote.

"There is so much energy and the video reflects that. We are a live act and would be just as enthusiastic on stage. If you like our song and find it catchy then vote for us."

This morning the band were in second place, short of the lead by about 1,000 votes.

Voting ends at midnight on Friday, August 9. It is free to vote visit jamieoliver.com/summerjam
