I am appalled at Anthony Knowles's predicament highlighted on the front page of last week's Sutton Guardian.
Lawyers make a lot of money discussing what is and what is not reasonable, but this seems to be totally unreasonable.
Why don't Sutton's ticket machines issue parking tickets with a peel-off sticker on the back like other councils (e.g. Reigate and Banstead) do?
The flimsy things that Sutton's ticket machines issue easily blow off the dashboard.
The Shotfield car park machine prints your registration number on the ticket (to avoid transfer of tickets with spare time on them), so Mr Knowles had proof of payment.
It seems his only "crime" was not to notice that his ticket had blown off the dashboard before the car park attendant did, for which the penalty seems excessive.
Let's campaign for decent car park tickets with peel-off stickers on the back, then there would be no excuse.
Or would that lose our council too much money from fines for legally paid for, but poorly displayed tickets?
