A Walton schoolgirl was presented with an award by Lord Sugar after being named the most enterprising girl in key stage three at the National Enterprise Challenge.

Jaz Harvey, 12, a year 8 pupil at Rydens Enterprise School (RES), beat competition from pupils at 80 other schools to walk away with the trophy.

The schoolgirl was part of a RES team Gimmy Gummy which had created a bin with a brain.

The team worked together every lunch time for three weeks to make sure the product worked correctly.

The team travelled to London to deliver their presentation at the inter-school competition, which is available to all schools across the UK.

Despite not winning the most outstanding school award, Jaz walked away from the competition with the award for the most enterprising girl in key stage 3.

Jaz said: “I was so excited when they said my name that I struggled to walk through and was shaking couldn’t believe Lord Sugar was about to hand me my crystal trophy.

“Claire Young, entrepreneur and finalist of apprentice 2008 said this was apparently an amazing presentation which blew the panel away the best of the 60 presentations they saw that day.”

Jaz’s mother Carol said she was “over the moon” with her win and has put the crystal trophy as a centre piece on their kitchen table.
