A female cyclist in her twenties has suffered head injuries after colliding with a RideLondon steward near Richmond Park today.

The cyclist, who was not part of either the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 or the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, was air lifted to hospital after colliding with the steward, who was not on duty at the time.

The A205 Upper Richmond Road was closed both ways between Roehampton Lane and Vine Road, creating delays along Roehampton Lane and Rocks Lane.

Metropolitan Police have said the pedestrian was not injured, and cannot confirm if the cyclist was wearing a helmet.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at 2.40pm to reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a pedestrian along Roehampton Lane, junction with Upper Richmond Road, Wandsworth.

“It appears at this early stage that a cyclist, who was not taking part in the Prudential Ride London event, was in collision with a steward who was assisting as part of the cycle event.

“The cyclist was treated at the scene and has since been airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel for further treatment. They are considered to have suffered serious injuries.

“The steward appears to have been unhurt following the incident.”

London Ambulance Service (LAS) also could not confirm if the cyclist was wearing a helmet but said they were believed to be unconscious at the scene.

An LAS spokeswoman said: “We were called at 2.07pm to Upper Richmond Road to reports of someone who had fallen off a bicycle.

“We sent a motorcycle responder, a duty officer and also London Air Ambulance to the scene.

“Our staff treated one patient, a woman reported to be in her twenties for a head injury. She was unconscious at the scene. She was air lifted to Royal London Hospital.”
