Crystal Palace have pulled out of their double swoop for Dan Gosling or Carlton Cole.

Co-chairman Steve Parish said the Eagles have moved on to fresh targets, and decided to drop any move for the Newcastle United midfielder or the West Ham striker.

It ends days of speculation where Cole in particular had been seen around Selhurst Park, apparently on the verge of a deal.

Parish said: "It's very unlikely Dan and Carlton will be signing, we have decided to move on.

"We are now looking at alternative targets."

Gosling, who has a history of injury problems, is said to be preparing to fight for his place at St James Park.
