Striker Atdhe Nuhiu has turned his back on Crystal Palace and signed for Sheffield Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Austrian international was in the blue and red of the Eagles on Tuesday night at Gillingham, and he got on the scoresheet in the weekend win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

However, he has decided to swap being a swooping Eagle for a cuddly owl and, subject to clearance from the FA, Football League and FIFA, will join on a free transfer.

Nuhiu told the swfc website: “I have had interest from Sheffield Wednesday for some time but as a professional footballer, you talk to other clubs, this is natural.

"But this club always felt right for me, it feels comfortable and I am very happy to be here.

“Sheffield Wednesday is a strong name throughout Europe and I am looking forward to starting training and playing with my new club.”

Palace had been among the favourites to secure Nuhiu's signature ahead of a host of Premier League rivals.

However, earlier this afternoon [Thursday], Nuhui opted to drop down a level to the Championship and Hillsborough.
