The loss of our Lollipop Patrols is a cost cutting exercise that will in likelihood cost a child's life.

I know from personal experience that my child may have not lived to tell the tale if it had not been for the Lollipop Patrol stopping them from crossing the road when they had only started reception and was still only 4 years old.

I had my baby in their pram and had picked up my child from school.  It is a busy playground and I told him to wait but he was a little distracted and before I knew it I could not see him.  I panicked went back to his classroom and rallied the staff who helped me look for him.  My neighbours also kept their eyes open and one came rushing back to say he was safe with the Lollipop Patrol.

I have never been so grateful or relieved because anything could have happened. My poor child was so upset and from this day both my children know that if they cannot see me, I cannot see them.  No traffic crossing could have stopped my child and who knows what could have happened.

The Lollipop Patrol's diligence is a proven lifesaver in so many ways. Providing an invaluable service as traffic control, stopping young children to wait for their parents and ensuring importantly that an unescorted child safely crosses the busy roads.

My child is now heading into Year 5 and is looking to gain more independence each day and will eventually go to school on their own.  Lollipop Patrols are not just about traffic control but they are our Safety Patrols who get to know their regulars and are aware of their surroundings.  They can offer guidance and advice on any close proximity dangerous situations which some of us may step into without them.

Cost cutting? this is a life cutting exercise and will it take a tragedy before those who believe they are saving a little bit of cash (for what end?) to see the real work of our Lollipop Patrols as our Safety Guards of our future.
