A petition has been started to change the name of Walton Bridge to that of the royal baby.
The new bridge opened to traffic on Monday, July 22, the same day the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their first child into the world.
Last night it was announced the baby's name is George Alexander Louis, or His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
Walton resident and BBC Surrey presenter Nick Wallis said the “happy coincidence” inspired him to start the petition.
He said: “Why wouldn’t you want to name the bridge after our future king? It would be a great honour for Walton if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to give their assent to the idea.”
The petition has been addressed to David Hodge, leader of Surrey County Council, John O’Reilly, leader of Elmbridge Council and Robert Watts, leader of Spelthorne Council.
