A retired engineer died after choking on an apple, an inquest heard.

Nigerian born Mustafau Ogegbo, 71, of Theobald Road, Croydon, had a cardiac arrest while eating the apple on February 11 and was taken to Croydon University Hospital, Croydon Coroner's Court heard on Thursday.

Staff gave him adrenalin and tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead that day.

The court heard Mr Ogegbo suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and had deteriorating mobility in his later years.

The direct cause of death was the aspiration of gastric contents, a consequence of Parkinson’s Disease. Croydon Coroner Dr Roy Palmer, gave a verdict of accidental death.
