Three members of Surrey Walking Club have been selected to represent England in a 28-hour International Walking Competition at Roubaix, France next weekend. This year's national 100 mile champion Sandra Brown and last year's national 24-hour champion Ian Statter will be joined by Cathey Crilley to make up the England team of eight who will be battling it out for a gruelling 28 hours.
They compete against top European walkers from France, Belgium, Holland and as far afield as Russia and the Ukraine.
Walking continuously for 28 hours at about 8km / hr nearly double the average persons walking pace is one of the toughest challenges and requires a great deal of physical and mental strength and stamina to go the distance. Results will appear next week.
