Firefighters were called to a Walton hotel after a guest smoking from a window caused a small fire.
Crew members from Painshill attended the Ashley Park Hotel at 12.15am this morning and used one hose reel jet to put out the flames on the cladding on the first floor of the hotel.
Dominic Marjoram, manager of Ember pub and dining beneath the hotel, said both the pub and hotel were open as usual today.
The hotel was evacuated but no major damage was caused to the building.
Mr Marjoram said he believed the fire was caused by a hotel guest smoking above a flat roof under their bedroom window.
