Swapping his snooker cue for a golf club, John Virgo headed on to the greens for a day of golf in aid of Princess Alice Hospice.

Held at Hersham Golf Club, 34 teams played against the snooker legend and his celebrity team comprising former UK snooker champion Patsy Fagan, James Bond stuntman Rocky Taylor and Kenny Lynch.

With the competition heating up at the 12th hole, players aimed to land on the green for the chance to win a glass of champagne.

For the talented or lucky golfer able to get a hole in one, a Peugeot 208 would be waiting to be driven home at the end of the day. No golfers were able to sink the ball in one shot, leaving the car unclaimed.

Mr Virgo said: “I am a big fan of golf and over the years have been lucky enough to be invited to numerous charity golf days. I thought it was time I hosted one myself, that way I could choose the charity.

“I have been a member of Hersham Golf Club for many years, so the venue and a link with the local hospice was perfect fit.

“I live in Cobham and Princess Alice Hospice provides vital care and support to my local community. I am delighted to support such a worthy charity.”

After the full round of golf, players participated with a night of fundraising with the auction fetching more than £1,000.

A raffle with a range of prizes helped boost the total for the day to £2,500, which could fund 25 visits to patients’ homes by a Princess Alice community nurse.
