Visitors to the WWT London Wetland Centre in Barnes can enjoy a weekend of crafts and equestrianism when visiting this month.

The 105-acre centre has invited skilled craftspeople to demonstrate ancient crafts and create practical objects.

Visitors can test out their crafts skills during various workshop sessions such as silk painting, willow weaving and ceramics.

Coracle boats, a traditional method of wetland transport, will be paddled through the water during the weekend.

A range of stalls will sell unique crafts and 10 per cent of profits will be donated to the WWT – helping it continue its conservation work around the globe.

On Sunday, July 21, there will be the chance to go on a shire horse ride on a traditional dray.

London Wetland Centre general manager Richard Myers says: “Wetlands have provided food, building materials and tools for people for thousands of years.

“They have also inspired artists, including WWT’s founder Sir Peter Scott, with their beauty and diversity of wildlife.

“Our traditional crafts weekend reflects the relationship between people and the natural environment in terms of the materials we use from wetlands and the countryside.”
