Sutton Food Bank collected 1,800 kgs of food from generous Tesco shoppers last week.

The charity’s volunteers held a collection at Tesco, in Oldfields Road, on Friday and Saturday.

Customers donated non-perishable food as part of the “every can helps” initiative.

The charity is currently seeing 100 clients a month during their four sessions each week– double the amount they have seen in previous years.

They have recently opened a fourth session at Bishop Andrewes’ Church on the St Helier estate as 20 per cent of their clients come from the borough’s northern wards.
