Bellringers and singers travelled from the USA to ring in the official re-opening of a library at the weekend.

Tattenhams Community Library, in Tattenham Crescent, opened seven months ago, but had its formal re-opening on Saturday, June 15.

To mark the event, ringers and singers from the Handbell group, from Lakeland, Florida, performed.

The group is visiting the UK to get their bells checked over at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, where it got its bells from while previously in England.

It performed alongside five choirs from schools and local groups, and there were also stalls, activities and displays for visitors to enjoy.

Pauline Sowry, chairwoman of the Tattenhams Community Library steering group, said: "We are now able to celebrate our success in increasing library use all-round - there are more people using the library and more books being borrowed, adults and children, it’s wonderful."
