People are being encouraged to have their say on ways to improve Croydon’s Old Town.

The council is asking people to give feedback on ideas for the area’s master plan, which will be exhibited at the Connected Croydon Project Shop, in Church Street.

The plan will guide the development of Old Town over the next 20 years and lay out how its historic places including Croydon Minster, Old Palace School, Reeves Corner and Surrey Street, can be preserved and enhanced.

The plan will also suggest how movement in, out and around the area could be better, for example by improving pedestrian and cyclist crossings over Roman Way.

Cabinet member for planning, regeneration and transport, Councillor Jason Perry, said: “The council has been working with local groups to arrive at a shared vision for Old Town.

“This vision focuses on enhancing and preserving the treasured buildings and historic street patterns within Old Town as well as improving the area’s potential as a place to live, visit, work and socialise.”

The exhibitions will be held between 5.30pm and 9pm on Thursday, June 20, and from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, June 22.

A draft of the master plan will be prepared for full public consultation this year.

The Old Town master plan will include £1.5m of investment from The Mayor of London for upgrading streets, buildings and public spaces in the area, as part of the wider Connected Croydon programme.

The East Croydon, West Croydon, Fair Field and Mid Croydon master plans have been adopted.
