Police in Kingston were spotted on double-yellow lines by a sharp-eyed tweeter.
Kevin Whincup, from Wimbledon, posted a photo on Twitter on Wednesday of the police van.
A constable and a community support officer had pulled up in Eden Street and strolled into McDonald’s to get breakfast, he claimed.
Kingston police said the matter would be investigated.
