The agony and ecstasy of the Wimbledon Championships is almost here – and those who failed to secure tickets can enjoy two weeks of tennis on a big screen in the heart of the town centre.

Love Wimbledon will screen the tournament live from the Piazza and has partnered with the All England Lawn Tennis Club to provide banners and hanging floral baskets throughout the town centre.

Tennis fans can take advantage of deckchairs and food stalls and settle down to watch Andy Murray once again strive to bring the men’s title back to these shores, with the screen set up for the entirety of the fortnight, beginning on Monday, June 24.

A Love Wimbledon spokeswoman said: “It’s that time of year and the Championships are back in town, but not all of us are able to get there to watch the world’s tennis heroes battle it out live.

“This year, we at Love Wimbledon felt that the Championships’ atmosphere should be shared by all the people who live, shop or work here.

“Therefore, we are creating a special court in the town centre for you to experience the tennis.”

James Ralley, marketing manager at the All England Club, said: “As part of our campaign to improve the Wimbledon experience for both our visitors and the community, we were delighted to work with Love Wimbledon to enhance the arrival and approach to the Championships the moment you set foot in the town centre.

“It should help to create a more festive look and atmosphere for everyone.”
