A church is getting into the spirit of Father’s Day by organising a beer swap at its Sunday service.

Men are invited to bring a beer or cider bottle to the service at St Mark’s Church in Tattenham Corner.

After being quizzed on their favourite beers the men will take home a different bottle from the altar.

Rev Des Williamson, the minister at St Mark's, said: "The idea came about when one of the men in the congregation complained that women get flowers on Mother’s day but we men don’t get anything."

"As we discussed this the idea for the beer swap was born."

ASDA are providing extra bottles and Caroline Hayton, the Burgh Heath store’s community champion, picked brands like Bishop’s finger, Abbot Ale, Goliath and Black Sheep Ale.

St Mark’s Church is a joint Anglican and Methodist church and despite many Methodist churches being tee-total it seeks to relate to everyday life.

When church leadership team leader Colin Batty saw the beers lined up on the altar, he said "I think men can relate to this, can I have one now?"
