A man was rescued from a fire at a sheltered housing complex in Purley yesterday.
Four fire engines and 21 firefighters from Croydon, Wallington, Lambeth and Mitcham fire stations were called to Foxley Lane, at 4.48pm.
The fire which started in a kitchen, left part of the flat damaged by fire, which was under control by 6.02pm.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering smoke inhalation, but there were no other reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
