Joshua Sanger from Goodfellows in Cheam was among 12 men who recently cycled from London to Paris in 24 hours to raise funds for the Hope4Malawi charity.

Sales negotiator Joshua teamed up with 11 members of St Paul’s Church, Howell Hill, to ride 260 miles to raise funds for the charity to build a kitchen in a school in Malawi to feed its 1,600 pupils each day.

The 12 riders with six support crew set out from Marble Arch at 8.30pm on May 31 to ride to Dover to catch the 3.20am ferry for Calais and then getting on their bikes again to cycle 185 miles to Paris.

Taking part were Joshua Sanger, Sam Sanger, Dave Male, Seb Crutch, James Wakefield, Adam Hansen, Tim Styles, Neil Ambler, Shaun Paget, Brendan Wilson and Alan Minster. Nick Trueman, Dave Trueman, John Warr, Ken Thomas-Steer, Gerry Rashbrook and Trevor Martin were the support team.

Joshua said after the event: “We made it with half an hour to spare. It would have been earlier but the traffic in Paris was murder, not to mention being stopped by the French police once or twice, concerned for our safety on some of the more interesting Paris roads!”
