A Sutton town centre nightclub has successfully fought to keep its licence.

Wonderland, in Cheam Road, was told by Sutton Council's licensing sub committee this week that it can remain open, and will have no extra sanctions placed on it as a result of its licence review.

Police had claimed the club was a haven for sexual predators at closing time, that staff sold drinks irresponsibly and allowed people to get dangerously drunk.

Representatives from the club say they are delighted with the result.

Lucy Herlihy, from No Saints, the business behind Wonderland, said: "We are really pleased that councillors dealt with us fairly. It is unfortunate and sad it got this far, but we are delighted to stay open."

Councillor Mary Burstow, chairwoman of the licensing sub-committee, said: "The committee looked at the evidence that was presented and decided not to revoke the licence of Wonderland."
