The proposed plan for the Viridor incinerator in Beddington will make nonsense of Sutton Council's recycling policy.
When the incinerator is up and running, I can not see Sutton borough residents wasting their time and energy sorting out their rubbish into green and brown bins whilst thousands of tons of rubbish from other boroughs will be incinerated locally to the detriment of their health.
I suggest that the council might as well collect all the green bins in the borough and offer them to Viridor for incineration.
Unfortunately, in this case the Liberal Democrat councillors in Sutton are not working in the interests of residents.
They are more keen in demonstrating solidarity with their Coalition colleagues in Government who are probably over the moon that a ''dumping ground'' for South London's waste is in the process of being established, whilst at the same time appearing to promote the Government's renewable energy programme.
This being that power generated from the incinerator will be fed into the National grid.
