Fellow archers have paid tribute to a bowman who died in a car crash last week.

Jason Griffiths, 41, from Chessington, was described by fellow members of the Chessington Bowmen club as “a really good friend”.

Early last Tuesday morning Mr Griffiths’ car ploughed into a tree in Rushett Lane, between Malden Rushett and Epsom.

In a statement, the club said Mr Griffiths was a key member, with a love of archery technology.

It said: “Many of our members first met Jason as a coach on our beginners’ courses, which he loved doing because he had the opportunity to share his passion for archery.

“He was always willing to help any of the members, especially if it involved laser setting the sights or using any other piece of technology.”

The club extended its sympathy to Mr Griffiths’ parents, who it said were devastated by his death.

It added: “Jason was also a generous person and great fun to be around, especially if he was on your quiz team!

“We shall all miss him terribly; above all he was a really good friend.”

Commuters said they tried to help after discovering the wreck of Mr Griffiths’ car and calling the emergency services, but he was pronounced dead by paramedics.

The Metropolitan Police said Mr Griffiths died of multiple injuries, and asked anyone with information about the crash to call 020 8941 9011.
