Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals have won an award for their ongoing commitment offering work placements to disabled students from Brooklands College.
EmployAbility, Surrey County Council’s employment service for disabled people, presented the Making a Difference award for outstanding achievement to the hospitals for their involvement in the employment works project.
Since 2010, 36 students have completed the project, which gives disabled students the chance to experience work and practice life skills, through the hospitals and at least 14 people found paid employment as a result.
EmpoyAbility’s employment development officer Jennifer Brown said: “The project at Ashford and St Peter’s has grown over the years with more and more departments coming forward to offer opportunities to our students.
“The staff in all the departments have shown a commitment and dedication to supporting, encouraging and guiding the students in understanding and preparing for the world of work.”
