Clothes moulded out of silicone brought an Epsom student success at Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) on Wednesday night.

Hannah Williams, 22, from the University of Creative Arts (UCA) Epsom clinched womenswear and fashion innovation awards at a ceremony in Earls Court.

Ms William had made impressions of clothes, jewellery and even suit lapels in clay then filled the mould with liquid silicone. She then glued the seams together.

She said: "As a womenswear designer, you dream about winning a womenswear award but you never actually think you’ll win one - it’s truly amazing.

Ms Williams, from Barry in Wales, was inspired by American sculptor Daniel Arsham and 1920s showgirl jewellery.

She said: "I wanted to show the flamboyancy of the 1920s. Noone has really made clothes in silicone before so it was quite a hard thing to do. I wanted to experiment more and make actual garments."

She now hopes to get a scholarship to study for an MA before going on to work with a design team, like Prada, and set up her own label.
