A revamped Epsom pub with a new focus on authentic cask ale and locally-sourced food and drink is back in business.

The Rifleman, on East Street, Epsom, has now re-opened, following an extensive refurbishment and with a new licensee behind the bar.

The pub, which was closed for a month from April, has had its interior re-fitted, with improved décor and furniture, and its garden has new decking and tables.

But the pub was keen to ensure the improvements remained "sympathetic to the character of the pub".

The pub is stocking an extensive range of cask ales including beers from local microbreweries and now serves six real cask ales on tap - including well-loved brands from Greene King such as Abbot Ale and Greene King IPA, rotating guest ales from local microbreweries including Ascot Ales and Hepworth Brewery, and a new house bitter unique to The Rifleman.

To give cask ale fans the chance to try more of what is available, the pub now offers beer in third of a pint tasting glasses.

New licensee Mo Ismail said: "It is a brand new start for the Rifleman and I am proud to be taking the pub forward.

"The new focus will be about providing good quality food and drink, sourced from local suppliers wherever this is possible.

"As with our approach to the beers, all the food we serve will be locally-sourced wherever possible. Our meat comes from our local butcher and bread from our local baker."
