The brother of a murdered rapper has been handed a suspended prison sentence for robbing people as they left banks.

Amir Tufail was sentenced this afternoon at Croydon Crown Court after pleading guilty to two counts of robbery.

The 19-year-old’s brother Umar, 25, was shot in the head moments after getting into his car outside the family home in Wharncliffe Road, South Norwood, on July 15 last year.

Last month, Sanchez Thomas and Kyrone Daley, who had a running feud with Amir, were jailed for his murder.

Amir Tufail, along with his accomplices Stephen Crawford, 18 and Jermaine Mclean 19, were accused of carrying out three robberies on May 22 and 23 and June 19 last year.

Prosecutor Andrew Ramsubhag, said: "What they would do is some would stay in the bank watching customers who were either depositing or withdrawing money.

"They would be on their phones and using their hands free they would inform the others and when the customer left the bank they would be robbed of their money."

Tufail, of Kent, and McLean of Crystal Palace, were given 18 months in a young offenders institute, suspended for two years.

Crawford of South Norwood, was given 12 months in a young offenders institute, suspended for two years.

They were given 150 hours community service and supervison orders.

Speaking after the hearing, Tufail apologised to his victims and said he was now turning his life around.

His father, Saj, said he was now getting on the right path following the murder of his brother.

Tufail will start a new job next week.
