Doves will be released into the air to mark the launch of an open day at a Purley funeral home tomorrow.

A motorcycle hearse and horse-drawn hearse will be on display and a jazz band will provide music at Co-operative Funeralcare in Brighton Road between 11am and 2pm tomorrow.

Visitors will be offered a guided tour of the home, while at noon newly-elected Mayor of Croydon Councillor Yvette Hopley will lead a service of dedication.

The day is being held for locals to learn about the work of funeral directors and to illustrate how funerals can be tailored to individuals' needs.

Steve Ryan, the home's manager, said: “Funerals are difficult and emotional times for all of us, but we hope by opening our doors we can break down some of the traditional barriers that exist.

“I hope people will take the opportunity to find out more about the work of funeral professionals and view our funeral home."
