A man from Chessington has been jailed after being caught smuggling cocaine and cannabis into prison for a convicted murderer.

Marcio Daniel, 23, from Nigel Fisher Way, was arrested after trying to enter HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire on April 12 to visit a friend convicted of murder.

He admitted to carrying the drugs, stashed down his trousers, before prison officers could search him.

Cannabis and cocaine with a street value estimated at £1,000 were seized.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, Daniel was sentenced to two years in prison, having already breached a suspended sentence.

Detective Constable Emily Clarke said: “Daniel was caught and I hope the sentence serves as a warning to anyone who considers taking drugs or other forbidden items into prison.”

“The prison relies on staff keeping security tight to prevent such contraband entering the jail.”
