A charity which provides accommodation for parents with children in hospital celebrated its seventh anniversary.

Ronald McDonald House, located in St George's Hospital, Tooting, held a party with parents and staff last Friday.

MP Sadiq Khan showed his support, alongside Jeanette Hill, house manager, and Miles Scott, chief executive of St George's Healthcare NHS Trust.

Tanya Smith, a Ronald McDonald House user, attended with her two-year-old daughter May who is receiving treatment for a bowel condition.

The house first opened in May 2006 and provides free home away from home accommodation for families with children receiving treatment in the hospital.

About 900 families have used the house since it opened.

Mr Khan said: "It seems a long time since I officially opened the House in May 2006 and it is a real pleasure to be invited back to celebrate this seventh anniversary.

"We are very lucky to have this valuable service here in Tooting, which provides much-needed support to families from the local area and from further afield who come to St George’s to access its range of paediatric services."

Mr Scott said: "St George’s Hospital provides a wide range of specialist children’s services to patients and many of these families have long travel times to and from hospital.

"Being able to refer some of these families to Ronald McDonald House Tooting, where they will have a comfortable and supportive place to stay, is an important part of the Hospital’s commitment to providing good family-centred care."
