Paramedics in an air ambulance were called to South Norwood this afternnon after an 18-month-old child fell from a window.

Police and London Ambulance were called to Farley Place, at 1.05pm to reports a child had fallen out of a window.

It has not been confirmed from what height the toddler fell, but a witness estimated it was "three or four feet".

A police spokesman said the incident was not being treated as suspicious at this time and the girl will stay in hospital overnight.

She is understood not to have suffered a serious injury from the fall.

A witness, who did not want to be named, said: "The first we knew was the police car tearing round the corner and there were two ambulance cars and the big ambulance.

"We heard screams from down by the house, it was like a kid's scream.

There were a couple of other young children around and we saw the mum holding the baby when she got into the ambulance.

"The police covered the glass cover above the door with polythene. The upstairs windows opens outwards from the bottom, if the baby fell from there they fell maybe three or four feet."

A London Ambulance spokeswoman said: “Staff are treating a young girl.

"They are still at the scene at the moment but she has been taken to St George's Hospital by road with the air ambulance doctor on board as a priority.”

She added the girl's injuries are not yet known and did not say from what heigh the girl had fallen.
